Students on Campus

Getting ready for UD

Packing, moving, forms, and Disorientation

A Word of Welcome From the Dean of Students:

I am thrilled to welcome you to the University of Dallas—the finest Catholic liberal arts university in the country, a place where you will grow in ways you cannot conceive in intellect and spirit, in mind and body.

There are many things for you to do this summer to prepare.  There are forms to fill out, a new student survey to take, housing and roommates to get lined up, your dining contract, and health forms to submit.  If you wish to apply for accommodations, you’ll want to apply through Student Disability Services.  You’ll want to know what to pack and how to get ready, how to travel to campus, and the orientation schedule once you get here.

You’ll arrive on August 22nd for not Orientation, but what we rather cheekily call Disorientation. We call it this because we first acknowledge that coming to a new community can be a bit disorienting… but deeper than that, we proudly proclaim that the purpose of a liberal education is to shake you up, to question your biases, to get you to think — so that you can then be re-oriented to the Truth, to Justice, to Beauty, and ultimately to the One Who is Truth, Christ.

We are excited to welcome you on August 22nd to start this process. Resident Assistants and Orientation Leaders will meet you and guide you into your first experience of Disorientation.

In the meantime, fill out those forms, get packing… and be sure to read A Life Well-Lived, the little booklet we use for our Disorientation summer reading, which will be sent to you by the Dean of Constantin College, Dr. Philip Harold.
