Renewed Hope: Scripture & the Jubilee Year 2025
Fall 2025: Pilgrims of Hope (3 lectures series; 3 weeks each)
Title: "Pilgrims of Hope, Isaiah 9 and 60, and the Jubilee 2025"
Description: In the Papal Bull of Indiction for the Jubilee Year 2025, Pope Francis affirmed that "hope constitutes the central message of the coming Jubilee," and the official Jubilee hymn gives voice to this theme with the title "Pilgrims of Hope," inspired by the texts of Isaiah 9 and 60.
Explore the prophetic visions of these chapters of Isaiah, examining their connection to the biblical concept of the Jubilee. Through a study of scripture, historical analysis, and theological reflection, gain a deeper understanding of the biblical themes of light, darkness, redemption, and social justice as they relate to the theological virtue of Christian hope.

Title: The Gospel of Matthew: God With Us
Description: In this Jubilee Year of Hope explore key themes in the Gospel of Matthew that help us grow closer to God through his son, Jesus Christ. From his birth to his resurrection come and see how Matthew teaches us that God is with us bringing joy and hope each and every day.

Title: Psalms of Hope and Joy
Description: The Book of Psalms is for us the inspired response to God’s word. That is, when we pray the psalms we are responding To the word of God With the word of God. Also, and so importantly, the psalms speak to the experiences of every person of every age as they express the entire spectrum of our faith response to God. In this Jubilee Year, we will reflect on psalms of hope and joy.

Title: Praying the Psalms
Description: Growing out of the liturgical life of ancient Israel praying with the Psalms can be an enriching way to connect with God both as an individual and as part of a community of believers. Explore the Psalms to bring you hope, to deepen your prayer life and to understand their importance in the liturgical life of the Church.

Title: Taking Up Your Cross: The Joy of Following Jesus
Description: What makes Christian life unique is that it is a response to Jesus’ call to follow him. Christians must look beyond the law and look to Christ, which means living a life that is both paradoxical (Mark 8:34) and perfective (Matthew 5:48). Explore the deep meaning behind Jesus' call to be set free to live a life of Christ’s love. Reflect on what is involved in living according to the demands of the vision and values of Jesus. Learn how such a constant renewal and conversion can transform individuals into joy-filled, radical followers of Christ, who live to know him and make him known.

Title: Spiritual Discernment: Listening for God through Scripture
Description: We can all use a little improvement on listening to God in our lives. Explore how listening to God through prayerful reading of and reflection on sacred scripture can not only help our faith life but perhaps also help us to hear with hope what God is calling us to in our lives. Learn how to let his Word be a “lamp to our feet and a light to our path.” (Psalm 119, 105).
